“Ai-funan,” meaning “flower” in Timorese, is a unique line of soaps that are handmade by a women’s cooperative in East Timor, commissioned by the non-profit The Hummingfish Foundation. Each bar is made with all-natural ingredients, and 100% of the profits go back to support these women in their communities. This project has enjoyed continued success since its launch in 2011.
I was commissioned to create the packaging – I hand-illustrated original artwork which represent each of the six scents, and created a seamless pattern from each set of illustrations. The patterns have been printed onto paper coated with wax on the inside, to preserve the natural scent and freshness of each bar of soap.
